Worship at UUFC
What is Worship?
Worship serves many purposes. It encourages us to think on a regular
basis about elements of our lives--our values, ethics, emotions,
relationships, history, joys and sorrows; it can remind us of our
relationship with the earth and with cultures and philosophies that
have preceeded us; it can help us discover how to keep alive and
hopeful despite our feelings of grief and loss; and it can help
us give form and shape to the joys in our lives. Our services at
UUFC attempt to touch on all of these aspects of worship.
We expect worship to elevate our experiences of value or worth. This may include citing particular values, challenging us to action, and honoring our heritage as Unitarian Universalists. Elements of worship include: music, readings, sharing times with children, a central presentation which holds up what is important and of value to us, and opportunities for building community. It takes many forms.
Worship Associates
Part of the program at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, worship associates work creatively and cooperatively with the minister to coordinate, organize, and plan worship services for Sunday mornings and special services such as those on Christmas Eve. Associates serve as lay leaders during the services, research readings and music, brainstorm service topics through the arc of the year, and assist with many aspects of production of services. For further information call our minister at 752-5218.Sunday Services
Two Sunday worship services are offered from the Sunday after Labor Day through the second Sunday in May: one at 9:30 a.m. and one at 11:00 a.m. The services are identical. There is one service at 10:00 a.m. from the third Sunday of May through Labor Day Sunday, and on the last three Sundays of December.
Sunday services usually consist of music, readings, a sermon presented by our minister, guest speakers, or Fellowship members, and open discussion. The ambiance of Sunday morning worship is enhanced by the community art exhibits hanging in our sanctuary and the flower arrangements provided by members of the congregation. You are invited to join us for refreshments in the Social Hall after each service. The members of our congregation attend church in a variety of styles of clothing. You are welcome to wear "business attire," shorts and sandals, or anything in between.
